NWK: Tuttle Creek ORV Area Partnership
Lake: Tuttle Creek Lake, KS Partners: USACE; Briggs Automotive of Manhattan; Flatlander Jeep Club Partnership Type: Challenge Partnership Agreement Corps POC: Gregory Wurst, Natural Resource Specialist Story: The off-road-vehicle (ORV) Area at Tuttle Creek Lake in Kansas was originally used for a military tank training area prior to the Corps of Engineers acquiring responsibility for the area. However, it had no sanitary facilities or improvement to accommodate public needs at that time. Briggs Automotive of Manhattan, Kansas provided a prefabricated vault toilet and concrete to construct a loading ramp, as well as crushed rock for an emergency access road into the area. The Flatlander Jeep Club agreed to clean and stock the vault toilet for the next five years. The Corps of Engineers provided labor to construct the ramp and spread rock for the road repair. Briggs Automotive was later reimbursed from a National Recreational Trails Grant for the expenses incurred. The agreement among the three parties was accomplished by a Challenge Partnership Agreement provided by the Corps. Thanks to Briggs Automotive and the Flatlander Jeep Club for all of their support and dedication to this amenity, and adding to the value and convenience of the Tuttle Creek Lake ORV Area. |
