Q. What is a partnership?
A. A partnership is basically an agreement between two or more organizations, created to achieve or assist in reaching a common goal. Partnerships may involve one organization utilizing another's unique abilities, equipment or services, or it may be a "sharing" of resources (money, time, knowledge, equipment, etc.) to accomplish short or long-term objectives for one or all of the participating partners.
Q. What are the basic building blocks of a successful partnership?
A. Most importantly, it's about relationships and working together - knowing your partner and what you can offer one another. Participating organizations must also have the specialized resources necessary to accomplish the identified task, the legal authority to enter into an agreements and the ability to accept or provide funding. From inception, partnership agreements should be coordinated with participating agencies' legal offices - they provide the legal foundation that the agreement is built upon.
