Nuisance Species SDSFIE
The Spatial Data Standards for Facilities, Infrastructure, and Environment (SDSFIE) are a family of IT standards (models, specifications) which define a DoD-wide set of semantics intended to maximize interoperability of geospatial information and services for installation, environment and civil works missions. The SDSFIE Gold data model for vector geospatial data consists of attributes to be included in all DoD component data models (Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, DISDI, and the Army Corps of Engineers). The Nuisance Species standard under the USACE HQ data model includes all SDSFIE Gold attributes, as well as additional attributes that are of particular importance to USACE business needs related to nuisance species management.
The purpose of the USACE HQ Nuisance Species vector data standard is to ensure consistency when surveying and mapping the location(s) of a weed, insect, disease, animal, or other organism (including invasive and noninvasive species) that directly or indirectly causes damage or annoyance by destroying food and fiber products, causes structural damage, or creates a poor environment for other organisms. Every species documented when utilizing this standard is to be a nuisance species, which means it is causing negative impacts. Invasive species and nuisance species do not mean the same thing. In order for a species to be considered invasive, it must be a) non-native and b) cause environmental and/or economic harm and/or harm to human health. The USACE HQ data model that includes the updated standard for nuisance species geospatial data will be released in FY25, and will be available in XML (physical model) and MS Excel (logical model) formats from the SDSFIE website (sdsfie.mil).
