Vehicle Meters are the primary method for tracking entrances at USACE managed recreation areas (Note Campgrounds are expected to use NRRS, not meters).
In 2012, The VERS team launched a new best practices document in conjunction with requesting information on current PSAs and meter information. This data call revealed new metering technologies that had not been fully evaluated for programming in VERS.
Through a study with the US DOT Volpe Center, vehicle meters at seven projects nationwide were evaluated, tested and configured for both programming in VERS and use/placement in the field. The results of this study are an updated and more user friendly Best Practices document. The newly revamped Best Practices Guide supports Project staff regardless of whether they have a mature vehicle metering program, plan to change meters or are selecting meters for the first time.
