    Advancement from entry level GS-05 to journeyman level GS-09 is typically 3 years. Advancement from the journeyman level GS-09 to a GS-11 typically takes between 3 to 5 years. From a GS-11 to a GS-12 typically takes between 5 to 10 years. And advancement from a GS-12 to a GS-13 or from a GS-13 to a GS-14 and beyond, are between 5 to 10 years. Further, advancement is dependant upon the individual and their willingness to take opportunities to advance knowledge and skill base, to take on more responsibility and leadership roles, their willingness to move if necessary and their desire to take charge of their career.
