Debris Removal

Lake: Hensley Lake

Park: Hensley Lake

Corps POC: Barry Wendorf

Partnership Type: Volunteer Agreement

Partners:
1. Madera County Juvenile Corrections

Story:
Hidden Dam at Hensley Lake is a one-mile long earth filled structure. During low water years debris, such as weeds, brush, and driftwood, accumulated on the slope of the dam. The Madera County Boot-Camp has been performing removal of such debris and cutting live growth from the sides of the dam, keeping the structure operable. Two other options were considered but proved to less desirable. One was to spray the sides of the dam with herbicide, which would be very costly and not as environmentally friendly. The other option was to enclose the structure and place goats in the area of the dam to eat away the debris.
