State Inmate Labor Program

Lake: Success Lake

Park: Success Lake

Corps POC: Dwayne Urquhart

Partnership Type: Volunteer Agreement

Partners:
1. California Department of Forestry, Mountain Home Crew

Story:
The California Department of Forestry oversees work camps, which are comprised of convicted low risk offenders. The goal of these work camps is to benefit all parties involved. For example, taxpayers benefit through better-utilized tax dollars, the public benefits from improved facilities, and even the workers benefit by learning new job skills. Success Lake frequently uses a specific work camp called the Mountain Home Crew. These individuals volunteer up to 500 hours of their time each month. Some projects they have recently completed include a new deck on the headquarters building, pruned hazard trees in all the recreation areas, a cement extension to a boat ramp that frequently came out of the water when lake levels dropped, and various other projects. Success Lake would not be able to maintain their park at its current level of quality without the benefits derived from this cooperative agency agreement. Note: Many of the projects within Sacramento District have implemented similar programs.
