Providing California Dept. of Forestry with Training Opportunities Benefits Corps

Lake: Pine Flat Lake

Park: Pine Flat Lake

Corps POC: R. Mike LaFrentz

Partnership Type: MOU

Partners:
1. California Department of Forestry

Story:
The California Department of Forestry (CDF) is one of the primary wild land fire fighting agencies in the state and they are highly skilled in what they do. One of the reasons they are so skilled is they take advantage of every training opportunity that is or may be presented to them. Pine Flat Lake takes advantage of this. Every year, a controlled burn is coordinated and planned with CDF to help reduce noxious weeds and promote spring growth. CDF anxiously waits for our requests to burn because this gives them a live scenario to practice skills such as predicting fire behavior, hose lays, report writing, and prescribed burn planning. This truly is a win-win partnership. Note: Many of the projects within Sacramento District have implemented similar programs.
