In 2002, Oleoresin Capsicum (Pepper Spray) was authorized nationwide to USACE Park Rangers. Pepper spray is to be used for self-defense purposes in the execution of official duties for the purpose of defending the Park Ranger from what he or she believes is imminent personal physical harm and to facilitate escape from danger.
