USACE Best Management Practices Session at the International Boating and Water Safety Summit
1. The 16th International Boating & Water Safety Summit (IBWSS) will be held at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay in San Diego, CA 4-7 March 2012. In conjunction with IBWSS, the US Army Corps of Engineers will be conducting a Best Management Practices (BMP) Session on Sunday 3 March 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This event, which is being led by the HQUSACE National Operations Center for Water Safety, will feature nine outstanding presentations and showcase several water safety initiatives from Corps team members throughout the country. A portion of the BMP session will allow each National Water Safety Team Division Representative to conduct a one hour meeting with those in attendance from their division.
2. If you would like to showcase your water safety initiative during the BMP session, Corps team members are invited to do that by completing the attached "Water Safety Initiative Showcase Entry Form" and returning it to Pamela.J.Doty@usace.army.mil by 24 February 2012. Showcase selections will be displayed in an exhibit area at the BMP session. Water safety initiatives may fall in any of the following categories; Exhibit (this could be an exhibit you use to promote water safety or it can be an exhibit that showcases your project or district initiatives); Posters, Signs, and Banners; Giveaways and Handouts; Booklets and Brochures; DVDs and Videos; or Public Service Announcements (Video & Audio).
3. The Summit is your premier opportunity to network, gain insight and skills to improve your boating and water safety programs. The suspense for pre-registering for the Summit is 2 February 2012. In addition to the Summit, there are other boating and water safety courses besides our BMP Session offered during the pre- and post-conference time periods. Please note that the National Water Safety Training Meeting on the Summit agenda for Sunday 4 March 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. is actually the USCG Auxiliary Vessel Safety Check Training.
4. Be sure to make your hotel reservations by 2 February 2012 to receive the special Summit rate of $133 plus tax, which is the government per diem rate. Hotel reservations can be made directly by calling 619-224-1234. For more information regarding the Summit go to http://safeboatingcouncil.org
5. All USACE employees at the Summit should attend the USACE agency meeting on Monday 5 March from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. to get an update on the National Water Safety Program. In addition to this Corps meeting, the BMP session on Sunday is another prime opportunity to learn from the best and let others know about the great things you do to promote boating and water safety. Everyone can benefit from the USACE meeting, the BMP and the Summit!
Thanks
