    Message for APPL attendees
The Association of Partners for Public Lands (APPL) will hold its annual convention in Las Vegas, Nevada 4-9 March 2012. The APPL convention is an opportunity to learn how partners can assist the Corps in the management and stewardship of its lands and facilities. The convention features keynote sessions, concurrent workshops, networking sessions, and a trade show. The convention schedule with session descriptions is attached, and can also be viewed at: http://www.appl.org/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageID=3370.

Please ensure that this information is shared with your field offices, cooperating associations, friends groups, and other partners. Participation is encouraged at all levels. Corps participants will be able to meet each other and hear partnership and NRM program updates from the national perspective at a special Corps forum breakout session on Monday, March 5. The Corps' Excellence in Partnership Award winner will also be recognized during the opening keynote session on Tuesday, March 6. Corps presenters will speak throughout the week on topics such as Bridging Agency and Nonprofit Cultures, the Children and Nature program, and Going from Good to Great with Your Volunteer Program.

There will be a Corps focused partnership workshop (8-9 March 2012) dealing with specific Corps partnering authorities, issues and opportunities. Topics will include building friends groups, partnering with cooperating associations, cooperative management, handshake successes, OMBIL and more. This is an excellent opportunity to further the emphasis on partnerships and friend-raising. Approval to hold this meeting via the new requirements is being worked now.

Please note the early registration cutoff date of January 6. If you have any questions, please contact Heather Burke at heather.d.burke@usace.army.mil
