New Visitor Assistance Self-Assessment Tool
I am happy to announce a new self-assessment tool that has been prepared to assist you in
managing your Visitor Assistance Program.
In response to the annual Park Ranger
Safety Survey that has identified issues within the Park Ranger community regarding VA
training, equipment, uniforms, and operational procedures, the Park Ranger Community of
Practice Advisory Board, with input from the USACE Visitor Assistance Instructor Cadre, has
developed this checklist that covers many of the required areas within the VA program.
Districts and projects can use this tool to assess their programs and identify areas where they
meet program requirements and areas where improvement is needed.
This is an
interactive tool that includes hyperlinks to the current applicable regulations - just click on
the title of the interested subject area and a link will open with the regulation(s) for that area.
This tool will be available on the NRM Gateway on the Park Ranger CoP page and on the Visitor
Assistance page.
If you have questions, comments or suggestions for improving
this tool, please contact your Division Park Ranger Community of Practice Advisory Board
Representative. If you don't know who your representative is, I encourage you to visit the Park Ranger
Community of Practice Advisory Board page on the NRM Gateway.
My point of
contact for this effort is Steve Austin who can be reached at
Stephen.B.Austin@usace.army.mil
Thanks for all your efforts in the Visitor Assistance
Program and have a safe 4th of July holiday week.
