NRM Headlines
7 Jan 2020 - Heather Wood - Natural Resource Specialist, Pittsburgh District NRM CAP (July - December 2019)
My time in the Career Assignment Program (CAP) with the Natural Resources Management (NRM) branch has been an eye opening and enlightening experience. It gave me the opportunity to work on a wide range of programs at a national level. I was involved in policy issues covering everything from firearms, invasive species, shoreline management, National Public Lands Day, and the national strategic plan update. I participated in numerous national teams including the Recreation Leadership Advisory Team (RLAT), Stewardship Advisory Team (SAT), and the Park Ranger Community of Practice (CoP) Advisory Board. I was able to engage in meetings that included the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works and contribute to high level correspondence. Overall, this experience has given me a wide range of knowledge on what it is like to work in our Headquarters office and all the things the NRM branch is working on. I was able to be part of a great team who works diligently for the field and the natural resources program. I highly encourage NRM employees to apply for this opportunity, as it gives you a different perspective as to how the Corps operates from the field to Headquarters.
