Utilization of prescribed fire as a management tool is often prohibited due to a variety of issues. Adequate hired labor, equipment and financial resources are often unavailable. Insufficient training and understanding of fire impacts on ecosystems is not uncommon. Many of our lands present unique topographic and boundary line configuration challenges which require the involvement of multiple landowners (federal, state and private) to safely burn. USACE land managers possess tremendous creativity, initiative and dedication. These success stories reflect unique methods for advancing our prescribed fire program.
