NPS Park Ranger Death OPM Corps Castle
The attached Operational Protection Message, reviews the shooting death of a National Park Service Park Ranger on 1 Jan 2012, and what lessons USACE could learn from this incident. Please distribute to the project level.

Further, as many of you know, National Park Service Park Ranger Margaret Anderson was fatally shot during the line of duty at Mt. Rainier National Park on 1 January 2012. Ranger Anderson had served with the National Park Service for 11 years. She is survived by her husband, who is also a park ranger at Mt. Rainier, and two young children.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ranger Anderson will be held on Tuesday, 10 January, 1 p.m., at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. Mr. Dru Butterfield, the Natural Resources Manager at the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, Seattle District, will be attending the service. Mr. Butterfield will proudly represent the Corps as a grateful nation pays tribute to a fallen fellow Park Ranger.

A memorial web page is available for anyone to post personal messages to Ranger Anderson's family and is available at http://www.odmp.org/officer/reflections/21076-park- ranger-margaret- anderson

The family has requested donations in lieu of flowers for the memorial. If you would like to contribute, donations can be made at any Key Bank or mailed to:
