2012 Watchable Calendar- Request For Photo's By COB 1 July, 2011
Here's another opportunity to excel and gain positive recognition for a Corps project. Watchable Wildlife is offering us the opportunity to feature one of our projects wildlife resources and a brief description of the project in their 2012 calendar. As an example please see the 2011 Watchable Wildlife Calendar showcasing Corps Projects: April (Lake Sakakawea); June (Mount Morris Dam); and, July (Michigan Inland Waterway). Copies of the calendars were forwarded down thru the chain of command. You will need a to submit: 1. A high quality digital photo of a wildlife species at your project (bird, mammals, insect, amphibian, etc). 2. A high quality digital photo of the project or project area where the wildlife photo was taken (headwater, tailwater, watchable wildlife area, etc) 3. A short narrative (4-5 sentences) including a brief description of the lake, the wildlife and natural resources of the lake, and information concerning the wildlife photo. For Example: Fern Ridge lake is just east of the Coast Range Mountains near Eugene Oregon. In summer, this birdwatching and sailing destination boast a remarkable diversity of breeding marsh birds not typically seen west of the Cascade Mountains. Bullrush and cattail marsh support breeding Clark's and Western grebes, redhead, block terns, yellow headed blackbirds, black necked stilts, and Wilson's phalaropes. The lakes upland margins showcase rare and endangered plants and butterflies, relics of the Willamette Valley's historically vast wetlands and parries. In winter thousands of Canada geese and songbirds flock to the lake's mudflats. Fern Ridge's importance to birds has earned it the distinction as an important Bird Area. 4. A brief description of the wildlife species photo Forward your photo's and descriptions to Watchable Wildlife in care of James Mallman [jim@watchablewildlife.org] and please CC me on your e-mail. Photos must be submitted no later than COB 1 July, 2011. Mr Mallman was extremely complimentary of the projects that forwarded photos last year and indicated the quality and subject matter was at a level where the entire 2011 Watchable Wildlife calendar could have featured Corps project areas. Thank you in advance for your interest and participation. Sincerely, Tim
