Carbon Sequestration Policy and Next SAT Meeting Date
FYI - As briefly discussed following the MVD presentation at the July SAT meeting, some of your offices have been approached by private interests concerning sequestration credits and Corps Projects. In June 2001, a policy letter was forwarded all MSC. The letter stated that until a sound policy on carbon sequestration credits is developed and approved the Corps should not enter into any agreements for carbon sequestration credits for reforestation costs on Corps lands . Here is a copy of that memo for your information and follow up as necessary. A policy study is currently underway that will assist in the development of policy to address the subject.
