Nominations sought for Pentagon Water Safety Event
The Assistant Secretary of the Army (Civil Works) has recently requested that the Corps National Operations Center for Water Safety (NOC) present a water safety event at the Pentagon on April 19-20, 2006. This event is intended to provide Pentagon employees with important water safety information, while showcasing the Corps program and park rangers. Planned activities include a staffed water safety display, availability of water safety products/handouts, presentation of NOC-related water safety programs, and appearances by Corps "characters" such as Seamoor and Buddy Beaver.
The HQUSACE Natural Resources Management CoP has authorized me to contact all MSCs to request participation in this event. I am seeking field park rangers to assist with this initiative and request that you encourage qualified candidates to apply for this opportunity.
Specifically, I request that any nominated candidate:
- Currently be a field park ranger assigned water safety duties
- Be familiar with national water safety program-produced products
- Have strong interpretive/communication skills
- Have not participated in similar nationally-sponsored events in the past four years (i.e., Lewis and Clark, National Water Safety, Boy Scout National Jamboree)
- Have supervisors permission to participate
- Have and be willing to wear the Class B (Formal Event) Park Ranger uniform, including the campaign hat for any outdoor activities.
- Complete the statement "I should be selected to work the Pentagon water safety event because&"
MSCs should forward any approved responses to my attention (email responses are appropriate) NLT March 6th for consideration (Pentagon is asking for final list of participants at earliest date possible). Selection of the final group will be determined by the National Water Safety PDT and results will be announced to those seeking consideration, as well as the MSCs.
TDY expenses will be covered by the National Operations Center for Water Safety, not including labor.
