Request for Input - Best Management Practices/Operational Efficiencies - Suspense 1 March 2005
I hope you all had safe and happy holidays - and have returned to work refreshed and
renewed. One of the challenges we will face this year and into the foreseeable future is
continuing constrained budgets. At the same time, our costs to maintain aging facilities and
the demand for high quality opportunities continue to increase. These realities will
increasingly challenge our ability to maintain the high quality recreation experience we have
provided historically and wish to continue to provide for our customers. One of the more
basic and effective strategies we can employ to address this challenge is to implement
appropriate operational efficiencies widely to make our scarce funds go as far as possible.
None of this is news to you. And, I know many of you have already identified and
implemented creative efficiencies that might have application at other projects. In order to
maximize the value of these good ideas nationwide and avoid recreating perfectly good
wheels, we are gathering success stories of park operational efficiencies to share with others
through the NRM Gateway. Please share any Best Management Practices that have contributed
to the success of your recreation program operation as reflected by cost reductions or other
operational efficiencies, and/or increased customer satisfaction. A submission format is
provided on the NRM Gateway that you may access from the main recreation page at -- .
Alternatively, you may access the format directly at --.
This submission page will remain
open indefinitely, so you may add new items as you continue to identify and implement them.
Please complete your initial submission by 1 March, if possible. We will consolidate your input
and make it readily available to everyone on the NRM Gateway.
Thank you for your
participation.
