2020 Water Safety Message to Commanders
To go along with the water safety message that MG Spellmon sent out before Memorial Day Weekend he signed the attached memo 05 June 2020. The memo enclosure is also attached. Please continue to make promoting water safety a priority and target those messages to adults especially men 20 to 60 years old as much as possible. This is a challenging year as we all know due to COVID-19 and we are not making as many face-to-face water safety contacts as we would like to but that doesn't mean that we slow down when it comes to promoting water safety. We are seeing more and more people every day come out to enjoy our waterways. Beaches and community pools are closed in several areas so numerous people are visiting our waterways to swim in undesignated swimming areas. As we all know undesignated swimming areas are the areas where most of our drownings occur and this year with the increase of people swimming in those areas we might see even more drownings in those areas than ever before. Please reach out to your visitors and the general public however you can to let them know the differences between swimming in undesignated areas and swimming at a designated swimming beach or pool and highly encourage them to wear life jackets. As mentioned in MG Spellmon's memo there are resources available to help you promote water safety and if you need anything else regarding water safety let myself and your division representative know.

Thank you for all that you do and together we can and are saving lives!
Take Care and Stay Safe - Pam
