2018 Excellence in Partnership Award and the National Volunteer Award
The memos, signed by Thomas P. Smith, Chief of Operations, announce the selection of the awardees for the 2018 Excellence in Partnership Award and the National Volunteer Award, co-sponsored by the Corps Foundation. These awards will be presented to each of the recipients in late spring or early summer of 2019.
Excellence in Partnerships Award: Discover Your Northwest (DYNW) in the Seattle District (NWD) has been selected as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recipient of the 2018 National Excellence in Partnerships Award for their efforts in supporting the environmental stewardship and recreation missions at the Lake Washington Ship Canal. DYNW partnered with the Corps Foundation to secure grant funding for the remodel of the fish ladder viewing area and continues to work towards completing their $1.3 million renovation goal. In addition to extensive fundraising efforts, DYNW operates the bookstore, hosts a summer concert series, 5K running races, Jazzfests, dances, and have upgraded the visitor center. DYNW's collaborative partnership with USACE has not only enhanced the visitors' experience, but has provided immeasurable support to USACE missions at the Lake Washington Ship Canal.
National Volunteer Award: Melody and Randy Parks (NWW) have been selected as USACE recipients of the 2018 National Volunteer Award for 6 years of dedication to the natural resource program at Lucky Peak Lake. Together, they have donated over 27,000 hours of volunteer service. Mr. and Mrs. Parks' efforts in water safety education, interpretive services, environmental stewardship, recreation, and security of Project facilities have been instrumental to the enhancement of habitats, improving the visitor experience, and strengthening public outreach at Lucky Peak.
Thanks for the incredible service our partners and volunteers continue to provide USACE and this Nation each and every day!
