June 2016: Great Outdoors Month Presidential Proclamation
Great Outdoors Month is in full swing! Check out the attached proclamation from President Obama officially proclaiming June as Great Outdoors Month. Last week, we kicked off the month with the Partners Outdoors Conference in Washington, DC where we honored our Legends winner, Tami Schroeder from the Willamette Valley Project, and our co-Beacon award winners Jason Knight from Tulsa District and David Gray from Baltimore District. National Trails Day took place this past Saturday, along with the start of National Fishing & Boating week which goes through June 12. www.takemefishing.org/nfbw/

There are plenty of events included in Great Outdoors Month for your projects to take advantage and be a part of. These national days are perfect opportunities to increase visitation at your parks and bring new visitors in through a wide variety of recreational experiences. Most of these events are easy to facilitate and participate in. Check out the Great Outdoors Month Website here http://www.greatoutdoorsmonth.org/ and details about remaining events are below:

NATIONAL GET OUTDOORS (GO) DAY- June 11: GO Day offers encourages Americans, especially our youth, to seek out healthy, active outdoor lives and embrace our public lands and waters. If you're looking for ideas on how to get started or need promotional materials, check out the GO Day website: http://www.nationalgetoutdoorsda y.org/

NATIONAL MARINA DAY - June 11: A nationwide boating event dedicated to grow boating participation across North America. Marinas across the United States are asked to open their doors to the public to show off the boating lifestyle and encourage non-boaters to get out on the water. http://www.nationalmarinaday.org/

GREAT AMERICAN CAMPOUT - June 25: Part of the National Wildlife Federation's efforts to inspire Americans to protect wildlife, including a three-year campaign to get 10 million kids to spend more time outdoors. http://www.nwf.org/campout

If you are hosting an event on one of these days, I encourage you to go the website and register your event. This allows potential visitors to gain information about your site as well as advertise all the great things you are doing at your project. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to learn more about Great Outdoors Month activities or have questions about hosting an event!

    Thanks,
    Heather Burke
    National Partnership Program Manager
