    National Public Lands Day Open!
If you've got an event planned, no matter how big or how small, don't forget to register it online at http://www.publiclandsday.org/register-site . This website also offers tips for planning NPLD events, suggestions for bringing more volunteers to your event, contests, media toolkits, and more. Be sure to register your event before September 1st to ensure your fee-free coupons arrive on time!

When signing up you site remember these tips:

  • Site Name is you Lake/River Project
  • Number of Sites is how many different areas you're working at that day- i.e. 1 campground, 2 different trails, 15 different shoreline areas, etc
  • Number of Work Projects is the number of different projects you'll be working on for NPLD 4
  • You don't have to have an event on Sept 26 for it to be considered a NPLD event. Consider hosting an event during the week and inviting out local schools to participate!

Here are a few of the more useful items:

  • Manual for site managers
  • Online media toolkit
  • Media kit for site managers
  • Volunteer certificate

NPLD is a nationwide event which encourages the public to volunteer their time to help care for, or simply to get out and enjoy, their public lands. In 2014, 107 USACE lakes celebrated NPLD with more than 16,600 volunteers! Corps staff brought these volunteers together to clean 1,300 miles of shoreline and maintain 143 miles of trails. In addition, 138,000 pounds of trash were removed and 1,100 trees and shrubs were planted. Let's continue this tradition of NPLD excellence and bring even greater numbers of volunteers and stewards to our lands and waters.
