June 16-20: PROSPECT Partnership class in Portland, OR
Due to the government shut-down in October, the first FY 13 session of the PROSPECT Partnerships in Natural Resources Management class originally scheduled for October 28- November 1, 2013 was cancelled. Fortunately, we have been able to reschedule the session June 16-20, 2014 in Portland, Oregon in the District Office. The session has been officially added to the Purple Book listing of classes. A message was sent from Huntsville 2 days ago to the training coordinators of the students originally scheduled to attend the October class. They will receive priority to attend this session; however, it is likely that we will still have vacancies due to scheduling conflicts for those students.
Here is a brief description of the course:
This course is designed to develop an understanding of the capabilities of the Corps of Engineers NRM Partnership Authorities and to promote consistency in Partnership policy application, explore alternative management techniques, funding sources and practical applications. Lecturers and instructors include HQUSACE staff, HQ Partnership Advisory Committee Members, and guest speakers.
Please share this message widely and encourage participation in the course. We hope to fill both sessions for FY 14 to build partnering knowledge and competencies among our NRM staff. Participants will not only learn in a classroom environment, but will also get to see partnership successes during a field trip to Bonneville Dam and hear best practices and lessons learned from other NRM staff in the Willamette Valley, Columbia River Valley, and Rogue River Valley. A block of hotel rooms has been secured at the government rate, and the public light rail system makes it very easy to get to/from the airport and around the city.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Students interested in participating should get approval from their supervisor and submit their request through their district training coordinator to the Huntsville Learning Center.
Thanks,
Heather Burke
National Partnership Program Manager
