    Volunteer ER/EP Announcement
The Volunteer ER and EP (1130-2-500) has been updated and published.

    1. This memorandum rescinds Ref 1.a. and replaces the referenced ER and EP chapters with the attached updated versions. The new chapters are also available in digital format on the web.

    2. The Corps volunteer program continues to play an important role in protecting natural resources and maintaining recreation facilities at Corps projects. In addition to policy changes implemented by Ref 1.b. on 2 November 2011, primary modifications to the ER and EP reflect changes in Corps operations such as procedures to access government networked computers, guidance on background checks, and acceptance of volunteer service from legal aliens and foreign exchange students. 3. We are in the process of making one additional amendment to EP 1130-2- 500 Chapter 10, Section 10-3, paragraph 9 b. Volunteer screening requirements located in ER1130-2-500 Chapter 10, Section 10-2 g., shall be adhered to during the amendment process.

    4. These revisions are effective immediately and can be electronically accessed on the NRM Gateway at: htt p://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/employees/volunteer/volunteer.cfm or at Publications: http://publications.usac e.army.mil/publications/ We are increasingly relying on volunteers to help us carry out our recreation and environmental stewardship programs. These updates are designed to help improve the volunteer program. POC for this program is Heather Burke.
