Migratory Bird Flyways

Migratory Bird Flyways are predictable routes used by migratory birds to get from the winter feeding grounds to the summer breeding grounds and back. Flyways usually occur along coastlines, major rivers and near mountains. Protecting habitat along major migratory flyways can help threatened bird populations and ensure the future of species that are not currently threatened. DoD and USACE manage a large amount of property within the migratory bird flyways. Habitat on these lands is essential for migratory birds. This habitat affords endless opportunity to implement conservation and management efforts to benefit and minimize impacts on migratory birds.
