Directions and Factoids
Directions: From Scranton or Allentown, take PA Turnpike northeast Extension to Exit 95, then east on PA
940. Turn left on Walter Dam Rd.
Factoid: The 1800-acre Francis E. Walter Dam project provides picnicking, boating (10 hp limit),
hiking, fishing, hunting, and disc golf opportunities for visitors. Traveling across the
dam offers spectacular views of the lake and downstream Lehigh gorge. Wildlife viewing
opportunities are also abundant. The 600-acre summer recreation pool supports whitewater
releases for the downstream Lehigh River. The lake can be accessed from a boat launch and
2 kayak launches. Swimming is not permitted. Additional hunting and recreation
opportunities can be found on adjacent state game lands and at Lehigh Gorge State Park.
NOTICE: Many states are discouraging or banning movement of firewood to control spread of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Not bringing wood from home to your campsite and not taking unused wood you procure while camping home with you is recommended -- required in some states. Check the following website to learn more: http://www.emeraldashborer.info/
