Lake History

Factoid: When the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built Bayou Bodcau Dam and Reservoir, it put together more than just earth and concrete. It created a very unique area in northwest Louisiana that provides outdoor enthusiasts a wide variety of recreational experiences expanding over 33,640 acres of land and water. Included in these opportunities are camping (recreation.gov), hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, biking, historical landmarks, and horseback riding, just to name a few. A major waterfowl management and upland game management area is also located here. Additionally, Bayou Bodcau is home to one of the largest remaining expanses of bottomland hardwoods in northwest Louisiana. Whether it be camping and picnicking with your family and friends at one of our many recreation areas, sightseeing, or canoeing down a moss laden cypress swamp, we hope that you will find visiting Bayou Bodcau a very enjoyable and memorable experience.
