Directions and Factoids

back onto Lake Mendocino Dr.
To reach Lake Mendocino's north end campgrounds, boat ramp and recreation areas, head north on US 101 from
Ukiah, take the HWY 20 exit heading east. Turn right onto Marina Dr. for Kyen Campground and the North Boat
Ramp. Or, turn left from HWY 20 onto Inlet Rd. to enter Bushay Campground.
Factoid: Lake Mendocino is located in the midst of wine country and near the gateway to the Redwoods. It is two hours
north of the Bay Area in central Mendocino County, near the city of Ukiah. The lake was created by
the construction of the Coyote Valley Dam in 1958. Lake Mendocino offers many recreational opportunities; we
have two boat ramps, eight day-use/picnic areas, two large campgrounds, one small primitive campground, two
disc golf courses, and over 15 miles of hiking and biking trails. For a wildlife viewing experience we
recommend taking a trip through our wildlife management area to enjoy the sights and sounds of eagles,
frogs, deer, and more! For on-the-water fun, there is motorized boating and water sports in high water
years, and non-motorized boating, swimming, and fishing at all other times. You may catch large and small
mouth bass, strippers, crappie, blue gill, and three varieties of catfish. Speaking of fish, don't forget to
come tour Coyote Valley Fish Facility at the base of the Coyote Valley Dam during the winter Steelhead run.
We hope you come visit Lake Mendocino soon!
