Directions and Factoids
Directions: The lake has two major highways that parallel its shorelines, KY State HWY 80 and 90. The
Lake Cumberland Visitor Center is located at the Resource Manager's Office on Boat Dock
Road, approximately four miles south of Somerset on U.S. Highway 27 at red light 29.
Factoid: Located on the Cumberland River, Wolf Creek Dam holds back waters that create the 100-mile
long reservoir known as Lake Cumberland, The Houseboat Capital of the World. The lake is
the eighth largest in the United States and is a cherished vacation destination for
millions of visitors each year. The lake is in close proximity to major highways and
interstates, has breathtaking natural beauty, offers miles of open waters, provides
hundreds of miles of secluded shoreline, and the surrounding communities and marinas
maintain an abundance of full-service amenities making Lake Cumberland a true water-way
get-away for visitors from all walks of life.
NOTICE: Many states are discouraging or banning movement of firewood to control spread of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Not bringing wood from home to your campsite and not taking unused wood you procure while camping home with you is recommended -- required in some states.
