Directions and Factoids
Directions: Immediately east of Walla Walla, Washington. From Highway 12 follow the sign directions pointing the way to Bennington Lake.
Factoid: Bennington Lake is a flood water retention reservoir located at the foot of the beautiful
Blue Mountains. In spring, water is diverted from Mill Creek to Bennington Lake after the
snowmelt has slowed and flooding is less likely to occur. The Washington Department of
Fish and Wildlife stock rainbow trout and other fish for anglers resulting in the
opportunity to enjoy hours of relaxed fishing. The Sun and Sage National Birding Trail is
found on the Project. Local birders frequent the trail to get sightings of the variety of
birds that live in the area year-round or come through on their yearly migration. There
are more than 20 miles of trails at Bennington Lake that support multiuse users including
Horseback riders, bicyclists, and hikers. This area provides beautiful views of the Lake
and Blue Mountains. The Projects Whitetail Trail is the longest at 4.8 miles with moderate
elevation gain.
The Meadowlark Trail at 2.6 miles that follows and crosses the diversion canal. Along
the way, you'll get an up-close look at both native and non-native plants and animals.
Rooks Park is a developed modern park that caters to family-oriented activities especially
on the weekends. Developed amenities include a sand volleyball court, horseshoe pits, a
modern playground, over a dozen barbeque bits, and over half a dozen secluded fire pits as
well as access to Mill Creek Recreational Trails. A pavilion that holds over 50 people,
is also available for reservation on Recreation.gov. The Mill Creek Project is the
premiere family getaway recreational area for the Walla Walla Community.
