Story: Working together with community support in an unusual joint effort Ducks Unlimited, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers developed an outstanding public resource stewardship project. This 330-acre project is the Haserway Wetland Management Area. This protected public resource has a surfaced nature trail system that makes it easy to observe wildlife in their native habitat. The primary objectives of this public/private partnership were to enhance and preserve a valuable wetland environment and encourage through firsthand experiences an awareness and appreciation of the diverse and delicate nature of America's wetlands.

Since its conception in 1989, the idea of a readily accessible yet protected public wetlands complex motivated many volunteers to participate in the development of the Haserway Wetland Management Area. It all started when a local citizen and Ducks Unlimited member approached the Corps of Engineers about the development of a Marsh project at Grenada Lake. The unique attraction about the area selected for consideration was its size and close proximity to the city of Grenada, MS. A formal groundbreaking was held September 13, 1991 and construction began in 1992.

Biologists and engineers with Ducks Unlimited provided the preliminary planning and schematics for the area. Public schools, community colleges, and other local school systems use the Haserway Wetland Management Area as a living laboratory, educating our young people so that they, in return, will be encouraged to act responsibly toward America's natural resources.
