Story: Food plots can be an important source of food for wildlife, and also provide other needs such as cover and habitat. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at John Martin Reservoir, Hasty, Colorado, joined forces with the National Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever, and the Colorado Division of Wildlife to provide just that. Seed was planted in several areas around the reservoir by both drilling operations and aerial seeding. Pheasants Forever provided the seed for planting and the Wild Turkey Federation provided seed and funds for the airplane. The Colorado Division of Wildlife provided seed, as well as sites for the plantings and use of equipment. The Corps of Engineers provided the land, mapped sites, assisted in the planting, and placed signs designating the areas as Cooperative Wildlife Management Areas.
