Status of the Natural Resources Management Uniform ProgramI know there has been a lot of questions and concerns about the status of the NRM Uniform Program - specifically "when can uniforms be ordered"? A new five-year multiagency uniform contract (now consisting of eight agencies) was awarded last fall. There are several new contractual requirements that must be met before we can open up the uniform ordering web site. We have been working with the National Park Service contracting officer and the uniform contractor (VF Imagewear) to satisfy the new requirements, most notably having to build a new Uniform Allowance Authorization data base, requiring the establishment of a new account with every uniform wearer. This action has impacted all the agencies and must be completed before the site can be opened. Under the new contact, many new items will be wear-tested with the intention of adopting new materials and improved fit and comfort. Many of the uniform comments that we have been receiving from the annual park ranger survey, regarding new materials and proper function and fit, are being addressed. We're working to hopefully get the program operational within two weeks. I appreciate your patience and I know the direct impact that this has caused nationwide. I'll provide an update as we get closer to opening uniform ordering web site. Steve Austin, Natural Resources Manager |
