Condition of Project Roads Used by Visitors

A major concern that managers expressed in this survey was the deteriorating condition of recreation infrastructure. Approximately 62 percent of managers described concerns associated with the condition of recreation facilities. In addition, approximately 10 percent of managers specifically expressed concerns about the condition of project roads used by recreation visitors (See Recreation Concerns of Project Natural Resources Managers).

In response to a set of questions asking managers to further characterize the condition of project roads, approximately 87 percent of managers indicated that one or more roads used by visitors on their project(s) were in need of improvements; nearly half of managers indicated that one or more of the needed improvements addressed safety concerns; and more than one-fourth had recreation areas avoided by visitors because of the poor condition of roads.
