Proactive Plant Management: Does it make a difference?

Dr. Jason Ferrell and Benjamin Sperry
27 April 2022

Dr. Jason Ferrell, Professor and Director, Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants, Pesticide Information Office, University of Florida – IFAS & Benjamin Sperry, PhD, Research Biologist, US Army Engineer Research & Development Center, Courtesy Assistant Professor, University of Florida Center for Aquatic and Invasive Plants

There are two primary strategies for managing invasive plants: proactive and reactive. It is difficult to mobilize a proactive strategy because this requires the commitment of scarce resources toward situations that are often lower on the priority scale. However, early intervention can prevent the need for large-scale management. In this presentation we will discuss how proactive management is an environmentally and economically sound solution.
