Harmful Algal Bloom indicator estimation in small inland waterbodies: The ArcGIS Pro water quality toolbox and HAB Explorer online web applicationMoly Reif and Christina Saltus, Richard Johansen, Erich emery10 February 2022
Researchers from the ERDC Environmental Laboratory’s Geospatial Data Analysis Team presented technical demonstrations of two remote sensing software tools that were recently developed with support from the ERDC’s Aquatic Nuisance Species Research Program. The virtual training focused on the fundamentals of the satellite image-based software tools for estimating water quality indicators of HABs in support of USACE monitoring in small, inland lakes and reservoirs. They include: 1) a Python-based toolbox, designed for use in ESRI ArcGIS Pro desktop software 2.7 and greater, using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery in a streamlined workflow with pre-set menus and constrained options to produce image-based abundance maps of HAB indicators (available on the ERDC Knowledge Core); and 2) an online ESRI web application that accesses Sentinel-2 satellite imagery via a cloud-based image service to assess inland lakes and reservoirs, in which constrained algorithm and visualization options allow for rapid screening of potential HAB conditions (available on the uCOP). |
