Phragmites is an aggressive plant genus that grows in wetland areas often leading to
decline in plant and habitat diversity. However, the Roseau Cane species is considered
vital to the fragile LA Coastal marsh longevity because the plant's root system binds the
delicate soil. The Roseau Cane Scale is an insect threatening this key vegetation in
coastal Louisiana, leading to wide-spread die-off. The LSU AgCenter is working with
several other state agencies to find solutions to this challenging problem.
