Critical Incident Stress Management

Headquarters POC

The mission of the CISM program is to provide education, support, and assistance to USACE employees for incidental or cumulative critical incident stress experienced in the performance of their jobs and/or in the event of major civil emergencies, natural disasters or military contingencies.

CISM is a process to lessen the overall impact of acute or cumulative stress and to accelerate recovery through peer support for people who are having normal reactions to abnormal events. It is complementary to and works hand-in-hand with the Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

CISM Peer Supporters are trained to assist employees who are experiencing normal stress reactions to abnormal events. These Peer Supporters are present in every Division and District within USACE. Contact information for Peer Supporters can be found in the links below. Requesting assistance is as simple as making a phone call or sending an email. All conversations with Peer Supporters are confidential.

Each USACE Division is represented by a point of contact called the Division Program Manager.
