Life Jacket Mandate Study - Corps Employee Questionnaire
1. As many of you know, MG Don Riley, Director of Civil Works, has directed the Operations
and Safety Offices to conduct a Corps-wide study on the feasibility of establishing a
mandatory life jacket wear requirement for visitors recreating on Corps-administered waters,
including leased areas (CECW-CO-N memorandum,
dated 6 June 2007).
2. One phase of the Life Jacket Mandate Study (LJMS) includes
a brief, 12-question, anonymous Corps employee questionnaire that is located on the Natural
Resource Management Gateway website at this link. https://corpslakes.erdc.dren.mil/employees/w
atersafety/ljms.cfm
3. All Corps employees are welcome to share their opinion by
answering these few questions. A Corps email address is requested only to restrict individuals
from participating more than once.
4. The results of this on-line employee
questionnaire, and the additional LJMS District questionnaire completed by District points of
contact (POCs), will be valuable information for a meeting being held in mid-November with
our partners in promoting boating and water safety. Some of you may have already been
contacted by your district POC regarding this survey. If you have already competed the survey
- Thanks!
5. For further information on this study, you can contact your LJMS District
POC (listed at the link above), or Rachel Garren, Policy Advisor for the National Water Safety
Product Delivery Team (PDT), or Lynda Nutt, PDT Chairperson at the National Operations
Center for Water Safety.
Thank You
Stephen Austin
