Ranger selections for HQs water safety event
Thank you all for the great response to our request for ranger participant nominations for this year's HQs Organization Day event, scheduled for 12-14 July in the Washington, DC area (dates include travel days). Each applicant was asked to propose one water safety educational outreach activity with their nomination notice; those proposals were used in the selection process.

The following rangers have been selected for this event:

  • Steve Patchofsky, New England District. Activity: Rangers will provide tours of their trailered ranger patrol rescue boat; picnic attendees can practice throwing rescue devices from the vessel. Steve will be accompanied by one other park ranger from NAE to assist with this activity; that ranger is not yet identified.
  • Lisa Freeman, Louisville District. Activity: "Safety Concentration Game", played like the game "Concentration" with topics related to water safety.
  • Dean Roberts and Aimee Jordan, Tulsa District. Activity: "PFD Scramble" and also "Life Jacket Fashion Show".
  • Kim Hammel, St. Louis District. Activity: "You're in Command, Boat Sober".
  • Robert Moreno, SPK, and Phil Martinez, SPA (both National Water Safety PDT members); "Fatal Vision"; activity uses goggles which simulate the effects of alcohol.

Funding for TDY expenses, but not labor, for this event will be provided by the National Operations Center for Water Safety. If a ranger from your district was selected, additional information on the travel details will be provided directly to them early next week; in that message, participants will be asked to provide their MIPR information, including estimated costs for travel based on the information provided.

In the event any of the named participants are unable to attend, Virginia Bjornson, SAM, and , Arthur Hoff, MVK, will serve as alternates.

Thank you again for your support.
