Updated National MOU Between USACE and Girl Scouts of the USA
Please see the updated national MOU between USACE and Girl Scouts of the USA (Girl Scouts), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1912. Today, Girl Scouts serves over two million members and more than 50 million alumni working to fulfill its mission of building girls of confidence, courage, and character who make changes that affect the issues most important to them. Girl Scout programs are delivered in every state through 111 Girl Scout councils across the country and in Puerto Rico.
This renewed MOU builds upon a strong 40-year partnership to provide valuable educational, recreational, and environmental stewardship opportunities for youth at USACE Civil Works projects.
Key objectives of this MOU include:
Prioritizing public safety in land and water recreation. Promoting collaboration to enhance public safety, education, and recreational engagement. Expanding recreational offerings and resource sharing to support public engagement and safety. Strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility programs. Connecting youth with the outdoors through exploration, learning, and service activities. Inspiring youth in STEM through engaging activities. Past collaborations have resulted in impactful projects such as trail maintenance, recreation facility improvements, habitat restoration, shoreline cleanups, and water safety outreach. This MOU provides a framework for continuing and expanding these joint efforts through volunteer initiatives, ranger-led programs, and environmental education events. It also encourages Girl Scouts to explore leadership roles, service learning, and potential career paths with USACE.
This MOU establishes a framework for continuing and expanding joint efforts. Future activities may include volunteer initiatives, ranger-led programs, and environmental education events at Civil Works sites. Off-site opportunities may involve job fairs, scout camps, and other collaborative events. The agreement also encourages Girl Scouts to take on leadership roles, engage in service learning, explore environmental stewardship with USACE NRM staff, and consider potential internships or careers with USACE.
