News Release: USACE reports increase in adult drowning this summer
Attached is a news release that Headquarters sent out yesterday to their media contacts. The release is regarding the increase in adult drowning at our projects this summer, and highlights several safety concerns to be aware of prior to swimming in open waters.

It was also posted by Headquarters on their Facebook and Twitter pages.

Please help in sharing this information out by providing it to your local media contacts and sharing it on your social media pages.

I have another favor to ask of you and your staff that involves promoting life jackets and boating. Please encourage people to wear life jackets and explain why they should be wearing them instead of telling them to have them readily available or accessible for everyone. Readily available or accessible might be the law but it is not good enough. It is impossible to put on a seat belt during a car crash and it is impossible to put on a life jacket during a collision, while falling overboard, or while being ejected from your vessel. Expect the unexpected and please wear a life jacket and encourages others to wear one too.

Thank you for all that you are doing to promote water safety! You are making a difference and saving lives and that is very much appreciated.
