ArcGIS Online Data Management
Please be advised that Districts will have an opportunity to work with the National GIS CoP to review data and applications hosted on the USACE HQ ArcGIS Online (AGOL) platform to ensure all hosted content meets best practices for public use. The best practices are outlined in the attached copy of the Portal for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online Standard Operating Procedures document, which provides guidance on use of web GIS platforms in USACE. The primary purpose of the review is to eliminate unshared or unused content and reduce ESRI ArcGIS Online credit consumption for content that is not publicly accessible or is not being shared on the site. Items that are designated as FOUO or contain sensitive or restricted data are not allowed to be hosted on ArcGIS Online. Additionally, USACE HQ ArcGIS Online accounts that have not been accessed in the past year must be deleted. It will be beneficial for District NRM staff to work with their District GIS staff to clarify where existing data and applications are stored, as well as plans for future repository and development needs. Data will not be removed from the USACE AGOL without consultation with District staff. This consultation will also help identify if there are more appropriate alternative locations for data and applications currently hosted on the USACE AGOL platform. Items that should not be hosted on AGOL include:
- Duplicative USACE web service or content already published out as an enterprise or National data set (NLD, NID, eHYDRO, etc.)
- Inactive web services or content
- Unshared web services or content
- Other Agency content - data owned by other agencies or state, local governments
If your district staff have questions please have them contact their local GIS POC then the GIS CoP.
Thanks,
Jeremy Crossland
