Radio Communication and Service Frequently Asked Questions
In response to many comments in the annual Park Ranger Safety Survey, and to help in our
collective reaction to the COVID-19 crises, I'm pleased to share with you the latest product
from the Park Ranger Community of Practice (CoP) Advisory Board. The attached "Radio
Communication and Service Frequently Asked Questions" document addresses the top 25
most asked radio questions/concerns from the 2016-2019 USACE Park Ranger Safety Surveys.
These questions have been answered by the national ACE-IT Radio Group, and include specific
instructions on how to solve these 25 encountered issues. Virtually all the radio issues and
concerns identified in the surveys have solutions under the existing ACE-IT Radio Program.
This information may prove to be even more valuable as we operate more remotely under the
current challenges.
This document serves as a guide for Natural Resources Management
program employees to follow in order to solve radio issues and is a product of the Park
Ranger CoP Advisory Board. The goal of this board, is to focus on employee safety and
security at USACE projects by obtaining employee input in a timely and consistent manner in
order to recommend program improvements and stay relevant in a changing environment.
POC for this action is Scott Tichy, Advisor, Park Ranger CoP Advisory Board. Please
contact Mr. Tichy at scott.c.tichy@usace.army.mil, or your Board representative (DLL-Park
Ranger Community of Practice (CoP) Advisory Board ) if
you have any questions or have additional input for this document which can be modified as
more information becomes available. This document will be posted under "Headquarters E-
mails and Memos" and linked to the "Park Rangers," "Important News Items," and "New
Postings" pages on the NRM Gateway. Speaking on behalf of the leadership here at
headquarters, I appreciate the excellent work of the Park Ranger CoP Advisory Board in
providing yet another useful product for the NRM Community of Practice.

Austin, Natural Resources Manager
