National Water Safety Program Manager Announcement
It is my pleasure to announce the selection of Ms. Pam Doty as the national water safety program manager for the Corps. Pam is currently a Natural Resource Specialist at Lake Shelbyville, IL, St. Louis District. Pam currently serves on the National Water Safety Committee as the National Water Safety Team Special Events Coordinator, the Mississippi Valley Division Water Safety Team, and the St. Louis District Water Safety Team. She was the St. Louis District Water Safety Team Chairperson from 2009 through 2011. At Lake Shelbyville, she is the Water Safety Task Force Team Leader, which includes lake staff and partners working together to promote water safety by developing effective policies and initiatives
Pam has considerable experience working with public and private partners to promote and advance safety, education, and training. She is a Master Boater Safety Instructor and Hunter Safety Instructor for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and is an Interpretive Services Trainer and Mentor in a partnership with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to train both USACE and Missouri DNR seasonal interpretive staff. She has had extensive experience with water safety education and special events at the project level, including conservation field days, safety days, school field trips, campground and beach programs, roving interpretation, nature hikes, and tours. She also has experience working with the media and others to promote events and water safety education. She was the on-site coordinator for the water safety interactive area at the 2010 National Boy Scout Jamboree, which involved working with the Sea Scouts, Power Squadron and Coast Guard to establish an effective area that promoted water safety to over 13,000 boy scouts.
The success of the water safety program depends on everyone in the Corps. We are stepping up our efforts to meet the Deputy Commanding General, Civil Works, MG Walsh's goal of reducing fatalities by 50%, and to implement the diverse and challenging actions to make the program more effective in reaching the full range of program goals. The National Water Safety Committee and all of the Division, District and Project Teams provide exceptional knowledge and experience to help guide our efforts. It is most important, that our field personnel, the rangers and natural resources staff, get everyone's help and support to implement the program with our visitors.
I hope that all of the NRM Community will welcome Pam into the leadership of the Water Safety Program. The Water Safety National Operating Center is located in Ft. Worth District, where Pam will be located.
Thanks to everyone for all of your efforts to keep our visitors and our staff safe throughout the year. Have a safe summer!
Respectfully,
Mary J. Coulombe
