News Release - USACE to use one website for volunteer opportunities in 2020
The attached news release went out this morning announcing the closure of the Volunteer
Clearinghouse. As of January 1, we will solely use Volunteer.gov as our primary way to advertise
volunteer opportunities on a national scale. Districts and projects are also encouraged to use
other methods such as social media, project websites, and local recruitment to further the
distribution and advertisement of opportunities.
Volunteers will continue to have access to the toll free 1-800-VOL-TEER (865-8337) phone
number or e-mail the new volunteer.gov@usace.army.mil address for more information about
volunteering for USACE.
Volunteer coordinators will need to start sending their volunteer opportunities for posting to
volunteer.gov@usace.army.mil beginning December 31, using the attached updated version of
the "I Need a Volunteer" form. This new version includes all of the fields needed for the
volunteer.gov website.
Starting January 1, Bobby Jackson (Nashville District) and I will initially take over management
of the volunteer postings while we work with an interagency team to fine tune upgrades to the
volunteer.gov website. Once the new, upgraded version of volunteer.gov is launched in the
spring we will begin training District volunteer coordinators to take over management of the
opportunities for the projects within their districts.
If you have questions about the volunteer program, please feel free to contact me, or Bobby
Jackson at bobby.g.jackson@usace.army.mil (615) 736-7192.
Thank you, and have a wonderful holiday season!
