Lake History

Factoid: Richard B. Russell Lake and Dam is located in the upper reaches of the Savannah River Basin. The 26,650-acre lake is surrounded by 26,500 acres of land and is known for being a quiet and pristine lake. Federal regulations prohibit private exclusive use of public lands surrounding the lake. This has created a unique tranquil and remote recreation experience for outdoor enthusiasts in the area. With its undeveloped shorelines, Russell Lake provides an outdoor experience that goes beyond just fishing; visitors enjoy the beautiful scenery as well as the abundant wildlife. Visitors to Russell Lake can enjoy a wide variety of recreational activities as well, including water sports, hunting, hiking, picnicking, camping, and fishing.
