Directions & Lake History/Factoid
Directions: To get to the Soo Locks, take I-75 to the final exit before entering Canada, exit 394. Turn left on Easterday Avenue and at the four way stop, turn right on Portage Avenue. The Soo Locks and Visitor Center will be on the left, approximately 1 mile from the exit. Visitors may park in municipal metered parking on Portage Avenue or in the free U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Depot Lot approximately 1/4 mile west of the Soo Locks.

Factoid: The St. Marys River flows between Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. The world famous Soo Locks on the Michigan side allows visitors to watch some of the worlds largest lake freighters and ocean-going ships lifted and lowered 21 feet as they travel between Lake Superior and Lake Huron. Inside the Visitors Center, hands-on exhibits help visitors understand how the locks operate and their national significance. Boat schedules, videos and information sheets are also available in the Visitor Center.
