NOTICE: Many states are discouraging or banning movement of firewood to control spread of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Not bringing wood from home to your campsite and not taking unused wood you procure while camping home with you is recommended -- required in some states. Lake History
Factoid: Constructed in 1964, Barren River Lake has long provided a haven for recreational,
cultural, and wildlife management activities. Ten thousand surface acres of water provide
ample opportunity for fishing, boating, skiing, or swimming. Several picnic shelters are
available for rent, or you can enjoy one of our water-front picnic sites along the nearly
half mile long ADA accessible boardwalk at Port Oliver Recreation Area. Take a walk on
one of our hike/bike trails and stop off at one of our watchable wildlife areas. The
Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife leases over 7,000 acres of land at Barren River
Lake for wildlife management, including hunting activities. In addition, they also manage
a fourteen-acre warm season native grass field, like the prairies that once dominated the
area. Come stay with us in one of our three class A campgrounds or go primitive at our
twelve-site class C campground with a public beach. Located within thirty-five miles of
both the National Corvette Museum and Mammoth Cave National Park, Barren River Lake is the
perfect location to stay on your next vacation.
